Public Money Should Be Spent on Public Needs

We believe the City Council and Mayor of St Petersburg should NOT allocate City funding to the subsidy of a baseball stadium. The Rays are worth more than a billion dollars and can afford to build their own stadium without taking valuable public dollars from the city. Countless studies have shown that the financial returns to the public delivered by such projects never live up to their promises.

Instead, we believe that if the City has hundreds of millions of dollars available for investment in infrastructure, those dollars should be spent on quality-of-life improvements for our residents, including mixed-income city-owned housing, wastewater and stormwater upgrades, and pedestrian and street safety.
